This week, the assembly workshop at BEIER Machinery completed a successful factory test run for acomplete PE pipe recycling line ordered by a client from Southeast Asia. The equipment package includes a 1600mm PE pipe shredding and crushing production line and an SJ150 PE flake pelletizing line.

Designed to process thick-walled, large-diameter polyethylene scrap into high-grade recycled granules, the entire system ran under full load during the trial. Here is a technical breakdown of how the machines performed on the shop floor.

Tackling Large-Diameter Scrap: The 1600mm Shredding and Crushing Line

Recycling industrial or agricultural PE water pipes usually presents a major handling challenge. Because of their massive diameter and thick walls, operators often have to pre-cut the pipes with hand saws before feeding them into standard shredders. This step wastes both labor and processing time.

To solve this, our client opted for BEIER Machinery’s 1600mm pipe shredding line. During the test run, we loaded whole sections of large-diameter PE pipes directly into the feeding trough.

• Smooth Grasping and Shredding: The automated hydraulic pushing system kept a steady feed pressure against the rotor. Even when processing 80mm thick pipe walls, the rotor operated smoothly without motor stalling or current spikes.
• Uniform Flake Size: After the primary shredding stage, the integrated crusher reduced the coarse plastic pieces into uniform flakes (around 12–15mm). This consistent sizing is essential for maintaining a stable feed rate in the downstream extrusion stage.

Stable Melt and Degassing: SJ150 PE Flake Pelletizing Line

The second half of the project is the SJ150 PE flake pelletizing line, which turns the crushed PE flakes into clean, reusable plastic pellets.

For this trial, the BEIER Machinery technical team focused heavily on temperature control and barrel degassing. Post-consumer and industrial PE scrap often carries traces of moisture or printing inks. Therefore, our SJ150 extruder is equipped with a double-vacuum venting system.

Throughout the four-hour continuous extrusion test, the vacuum pumps effectively removed trapped air and moisture from the molten plastic. The water-ring cutting face operated cleanly, producing dense, smooth pellets without air bubbles or stringing. These output granules meet the strict melt flow index (MFI) required for our client’s downstream pipe and film manufacturing plants.

Inspection Results and Next Steps:

Seeing the machines run side-by-side in our factory gave our engineering team and the client total confidence in the setup. We recorded stable motor loads, normal bearing temperatures, and an output capacity that matched our project specifications.

With the factory trial run signed off, the technicians are now draining the cooling systems, disassembling the larger components, and applying protective packaging. The entire recycling line will be loaded into containers next week for ocean freight to Southeast Asia.
